Tout le jeu est bâti en utilisant des objets. Mais tous les objets n'ont pas une forme en trois dimensions associée. Par exemple, les écrans de chargement (load screens) et les types d'eau (water types) sont des objets mais ne sont pas placés dans des cellules en tant qu'objets 3D.

La fenêtre des objets contient la liste complète de tous les objets possibles dans le jeu. Quand vous placez un objet dans le monde, une référence est créée. Essentiellement, un objet est un modèle (Template) - on dit parfois un formulaire (Form) - contenant toutes les informations nécessaires pour créer une référence dans le monde.

La colonne "Editor Id" de l'Object Window contient la liste de tous les objets de base du jeu, relatifs au type d'objets sélectionné dans l'arbre hiérarchique de la colonne de gauche.

Chaque objet de base peut avoir de multiples références (leur nombre est indiqué dans l' Object Window. Si l'objet est modifié, toutes les références sont aussi changées. Cependant, les références conservent des informations qui leur sont propres, un exemple simple sont les données de position. Elle est unique et particulière à chaque référence, et n'est pas stockée avec l'objet, mais avec la référence.

Si l'on clique sur un objet dans la fenêtre de rendu, on obtient la fenêtre des données de la référence. Les différents types d'objets n'ont pas les mêmes types d'informations dans leurs données de références. Créer et manipuler des objets

Si l'on clique avec le bouton droit de la souris sur un objet de la fenêtre Object Window, un menu contextuel demande la suite concernant cet objet :

  • New: Crée un nouvel objet à blanc de ce type. Il est cependant plus pratique de dupliquer un objet existant dont la plupart de données sont identiques à celui que l'on désire créer. Il suffit de modifier son ID, de valider et de répondre OUI à la question "create a duplicate object".
  • Edit: Ouvre la fenêtre du formulaire de saisie.
  • Delete: Retire l'objet et toutes ses références du monde.
  • Toggle Quest Object: Modifie le statut d'objet de quête, sans avoir à éditer l'objet.
  • Use Info: Un outil très puissant qui montre toutes les références et liens directs vers l'objet. Vous pouvez double cliquer sur une des cellules de la liste pour charger celle-ci en centrant la vue sur l'objet dans la fenêtre de rendu.

Objets de base Hardcodés

Certains objets de base ne sont pas visibles dans les sous-types de plus bas niveau. Ce sont des objets Hardcodés dans Oblivion.exe, et non pas dans Oblivion.esm. Ils sont donc visibles dans l'éditeur TESCS2 avant d'avoir chargé un quelconque fichier. Ces objets ne sont visibles que dans les types suivants de la liste hiérarchique :
